Goran Augustin graduated from the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb, Croatia, in 2000 and gained his MSc and PhD from the same university in 2004 and 2011, respectively. Following his graduation, he undertook a residency in general surgery at the University Hospital Centre Zagreb, in Zagreb. Subsequently, he qualified in General Surgery in 2006 and the subspecialty of Abdominal Surgery in 2010. He is currently a Consultant Abdominal Surgeon at the Division of Oncologic Surgery, Department of Surgery, University Hospital Centre Zagreb, and Associate Professor at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine. Dr. Augustin has served as both treasurer and secretary of the Croatian Society of Surgery and is a World Society of Emergency Surgery Board Member. In 2009 he won Croatia’s Academy of Medical Sciences “Ante Šercer” award for the best scientific article in Croatia. He has published nearly 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and he is the author of several books and book chapters. He currently serves as the editorial board member of the World Journal of Emergency Surgery, the International Journal of Surgery, Medicine, and the World Journal of Clinical Cases. Dr. Augustin is a full member of the Croatian Academy of Medical Sciences, becoming a secretary of the Department of Surgery of the CAMS. He received an award for the highest medical achievements for 2022 from the Croatian Academy of Science and Art. His most prominent book is Acute Abdomen During Pregnancy, published by Springer, now in its third edition.
