Dr. Sanchez Caballero was born in 1975 in Puerto Armuelles, a small town on the Costa
Rica-Panama border. In 1994, he and his family made a big decision and investment for
him to move to Costa Rica where he studied medicine at the Universidad Internacional
de las Américas (UIA). He then continued his studies at the Universidad de Costa Rica
(UCR) to become a General Surgeon followed by a second specialization in Plastic
Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, also at the UCR. After graduating, he has been
serving in one of Costa Rica’s main public hospitals, Hospital San Juan de Dios, where
he has practiced for 20 years as a doctor.
As a part of the National Burn Unit Team of the National Security System the CCSS, Dr.
Sanchez Caballero’s emphasis is on Limb Reconstruction, Breast Reconstruction and
Burned Patient Management. He is also a member of the Melanoma Clinic and the sole
Breast Reconstruction Surgeon at the Breast Clinic in the San Juan de Dios Hospital in
San Jose.
He is an Active Member of the Wound Healing Society (WHS) and a Postgraduate
professor at the University of Costa Rica (UCR) of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive
Surgery Specialty
