Regional Chief of Surgery, MedStar Health, Baltimore Region, USA
David E. Stein, MD, MHCM serves as Baltimore’s Regional Chief of Surgery for MedStar Health, overseeing quality, safety, and market leadership initiatives at each of the four MedStar Health hospitals located in the region. The region has 76 operating suites with 259 physicians and 153 Advanced Practice Providers working in the four area hospitals.
Dr. Stein also serves as the Chairman of Surgery at MedStar Franklin Square and at MedStar Harbor Hospital. In this role, he focuses on the development and implementation of an innovative, outcomes-optimized surgical services program to benefit patients undergoing general, minimally invasive, and robotic procedures.
Prior to MedStar, Dr. Stein served as the Alma Dea Morani Chair of Surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine. His most recent roles at Drexel also included serving as the Chief Operating Officer of Drexel University Physicians and as Director of the Mini-Medical School Program. He graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in Biological Sciences, received his MD from Downstate Medical College of the State University of New York, and his master’s degree in Healthcare Management from the TH Chan School of Public Health of Harvard University. He also serves as an Executive in Residence at Drexel’s Lebow College of Business. He trained in General Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and in Colorectal Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio.
