I am an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Department of Surgery, Federal
University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), Natal, Brazil.
I am a gastrointestinal surgeon with extensive experience in esophageal and upper
gastrointestinal surgery. I hold both a Master’s degree and a PhD in Gastrointestinal
Surgery and am a Specialist in Clinical Nutrition.
I currently serve as Head of the Esophageal Surgery Section at Hospital Universitário
Onofre Lopes, Natal, Brazil. Throughout my academic career, I have been actively
involved in teaching, research, and the development of minimally invasive surgical
techniques for esophageal diseases.
My international training includes a Fellowship at the University of Minnesota, USA
(1989), Visiting Professorships at the University of Pittsburgh, USA (2009), Cleveland
Clinic, USA (2012), and the University of Milan, Italy (2014 and 2016), as well as
advanced training at the Washington Cancer Institute, Washington, D.C., USA (2013).
I have authored numerous scientific publications and have lectured extensively on
esophageal surgery, gastroesophageal reflux disease, achalasia, hiatal hernia, and
minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery.
