Maria Boratyńska – a lawyer, an academic, proffessor of the University of Warsaw, researcher at the University of Warsaw (Department of Civil Law) and Medical University of Warsaw (Department of Forensic Medicine), Poland. A lecturer in medical law, secretary of the Committee on Bioethics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Editor-in-chief of the quarterly Przegląd Prawa Medycznego (Medical Law Review). Member of the Codification Committee of Family Law. Author of numerous articles on medical law, participant of many medical conferences. Co-author of the first monograph entitled ‘Patient’s Rights’ (2001) on this subject; author of the work ‘Free choice.Guarantees and limits of the patient’s right to self-determination’, co-author and co-editor of the project System of Medical Law (published by Wolters Kluwer). An active supporter of dialogue between lawyers, doctors and philosophers to create interdisciplinary syntheses. Takes up the most difficult topics that require comprehensive analyzes: collisions of people’s good and duties in medicine, end-of-life medicine, reproductive rights, gender dysphoria, medical decisions for the needs of children.
