Ismail Musallam

a Palestinian and Israeli board-certified ophthalmologist, Palestine

A consultant vitreoretinal surgeon. He is an independent researcher at the present time.  Dr. Musallam is a Palestinian and Israeli board-certified ophthalmologist and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow. He got his Vitreoretinal Fellowship from Manchester, UK. He was trained and worked at internationally recognized centers of excellence in ophthalmology such as Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology, Glasgow; Royal Eye Infirmary, Manchester; Hadassah University Hospitals, St. John Eye Hospital, in Jerusalem and Musallam Eye centers and Hospital.  As a comprehensive surgeon and vitreoretinal specialist, Dr.  Musallam has performed thousands of vitreoretinal surgical procedures, phacoemulsification, glaucoma, INTACS, corneal grafts, LASIK, and well over 30,000 procedures. Dr.  Musallam has played an important role in implementing new technologies in ophthalmology such as PRK (1992), LASIK (1995), Phakic IOL Implantation (2000), INTACS (2002) and C3R (2007) and ICL (2004). He was involved in teaching resident in ophthalmology and worked as a board examiner for more than 20 years. Over the last decade, he ran a number of research projects that focused on untreatable retinal conditions such as retinitis pigmentosa, Usher syndrome, congenital achromatopsia and central retinal artery occlusion. He has presented a number of free papers at international ophthalmological meetings on viscoelastic substances, carcinoma of the conjunctiva, Post-operative fibrin, INTACs, ophthalmic nerve stimulation-based therapy for retinitis pigmentosa and retinal stroke. He is a member of Euro retina, Middle East Africa Council of Ophthalmology, and Palestinian ophthalmological society. He graduated with honors in both MD and the Israeli Board in Ophthalmology
