Laser Plus Eye, Greece

Dr. Ioannis Mallias ranks among the Greek pioneer ophthalmologists, as he specializes, in carrying out limbal stem cell transplantations, corneal transplantations and laser cataract surgery with micro-incision of just 1.8 mm! The doctor is trained on corneal transplantations and refractive surgery at the well-known eye clinic of Columbia University, New York, USA, Edward Harkness Eye Institute, where he carried out a large number of surgeries with the method of LASIK for the correction of myopia, as well as multiple corneal transplantation surgeries and cataracts. In 2008 Dr. Mallias received training at corneal endothelium transplantations in Forli of Italy by Professor Massimo Busin.
Since 2006 he is a PhD holder of Medicine, University of Athens. The topic of his doctoral thesis was: “The contribution of multifocal electroretinogram in diagnosis and study of macular diseases”. Dr. Mallias has extensive clinical experience in macular degeneration diseases, as he has performed thousands of diagnostic tests (OCT) with the top OCT device, Spectralis of Heidelberg Engineering, since 2009. The doctor has also been trained in vitreoretinal surgeries in Lugano, Switzerland, as well as in the University eye clinic of Lublin in Poland under the supervision of Professor Robert Rejdak. Since 2010 he is the Director of the Department of ophthalmology of MEDITERRANEO Hospital and in January 2014 he also became the Coordinator and founder of the corneal transplantation unit of MEDITERRANEO Hospital.
Dr. Mallias has been a founding member of the Hellenic Society of Cornea and Vice-Chairman of its board of directors since 2014. He has presented multiple scientific papers at conferences, both in Greece and abroad. Moreover, he is the author of numerous scientific papers published in international medical journals.
