Maria Karidakis is a lecturer at the School of Languages and Linguistics at the University of Melbourne. Maria Karidakis’ current research is an exploration of the interaction between language, culture, and health in the context of intercultural communication with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Her research focuses on medical interpreting for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and narrative analysis and narrative identity construction and positioning in small stories told by interpreters. Other research interests are in the area of language maintenance and shift of migrant community languages and Indigenous languages and the socio-economic variation in the shift in use of these languages.
