Dr. Sonny Okundolor, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC is currently a Nurse Manager at Los Angeles County University of Southern California (LAC+USC) Medical Center in the Department of Emergency Medicine, Psychiatric Services. Dr. Okundolor has more than 30 years of clinical nursing experience and is an internationally recognized psychiatric nurse expert. He attended Los Angeles Southwest College for his Associate in Nursing, and proceeded to California State University, Los Angeles where he bagged BSN and MSN degrees. He attended Cal State Long Beach for a Post-Graduate certification as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. He then completed a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Walden University, Minnesota; his Dissertation was on ‘Promoting Nurses’ Management of Night Shift Sleepiness.
Dr. Okundolor is a two-time LAC+USC Merit award recipient, (2001 & 2002), one of the winners of the Los Angeles County top ten initiative awards in 2012 for his work on “Homeless to Shelter Program”. He was adopted into the 2012 edition of “Who is Who in Psychiatric Nursing” by the International Nurses Association. In 2018, he was recognized by the County of Los Angeles with “Innovating Impact Award” on his work on eliminating patient to staff assault initiatives. Dr. Okundolor has contributed to nursing future minds as an Adjunct Nursing Faculty at East LA College for over 16 years. He was recognized with a “Humanitarian” award in 2016 by the Edo National Association Worldwide for leading several medical mission groups to impoverish parts of Nigeria. Dr. Okundolor was a presenter at the Association of California Nurse Leaders conference in 2019 & 2020. Dr. Okundolor is a principal research investigator and lead author of “Zero staff Assaults in the Psychiatric Emergency Room: Impact of a Multifaceted Performance Improvement Project.
